SANDS VOLUNTEERS
Management Committee
Meet once a month. SANDS
is managed by a committee of bereaved parents who have the task
of ensuring that the organisation runs smoothly by raising funds,
applying for grants, publicity, arranging in-service education for
health professionals and general administration.
Advisory Council
The Advisory Council
consists of members of the caring professions. They meet twice a
year with SANDS (SA) Management Committee and Support Workers offering
advice and assistance on relevant matters.
Support Workers
Are bereaved parents
further down the track in their grief. These parents have undertaken
a grief management training course. Support workers are trained
listeners, not counsellors and are available for hospital and home
visits and for telephone support. Support workers are based in many
Adelaide metropolitan areas and country areas including the Riverland,
Pt. Pirie, South East, Gawler/Barossa Valley and Yorke Peninsula.
SANDS support workers
are aware that some parents have other issues and traumas in their
family life aside from the death of their baby. Support workers
can refer on to other appropriate organisations or agencies if necessary.
If you are interested
in becoming a Support Worker please email us for further information
and guidelines.
