SEG has decided to mount this year's expedition aound Arkaroola.

Arkaroola is a fascinating place in the North Flinders Ranges of South Australia where the effects of time are on display for those who know where to look.

Over billions of years it has been subject to major geological activity resulting in a vast array of land and soil types which influence today's plant and animal communities.

Over one and a half centuries european land management practices have introduced sheep, goats, rabbits, foxes and cats, and many species have become endangered or extinct.

For the last half century, the Sprigg family has put enormous effort into controlling ferals and restoring biological diversity, with dramatic payoffs.

Now Arkaroola is again under threat, this time from mining and climate change.

Scientific monitoring by SEG and other groups provides vital information that assists with planning and managing this unique area.

The survey will include vegetation, invertebrates, reptiles, mammals (including bats at night), birds, fungi and more.

The dates are from Sunday 20th September 2009 until Saturday 3rd October 2009
