Thank you to our Sponsors, Woodcroft Community Health Services and Port Noarlunga-Christies Beach RSL Sub Branch, and to everyone who is supporting us, especially the City of Onkaparinga Council.
Chair:
John Shields
Present:
17
Apologies:
Artie, Brian and Rhonda, Harold and Ann.
And a big
welcome to Tom and Raylene.
Our Guest
Speaker was Mr Doug Ranson, Nutritionist, Noarlunga Health
Services.
Doug
spoke about Nutrition and Prostate Cancer, and outlined the components of some
foods which can help prevent Prostate Cancer starting, and some which slow down
the growth of the Cancer.
Doug said
that FAT appears to be the worst component of food where Prostate Cancer is
concerned, especially saturated fats in Animal foods and most
commercial/processed/take away foods.
He also
talked about Omega 3 fats and Omega 6 fats as well as a variety of other
Components that also contribute to high Cholesterol and
overweight.
Doug
provided handouts to all who were present and will have some available for those
who have missed out.
It seems
that Nutrition is a very popular subject and Doug`s presentation was very much
appreciated.
I will
ask Doug if he would be happy to give us a talk again next
year.
AWARENESS
MEETING
The situation is still the same as I reported in my July Newsletter, we are still awaiting a decision on when the new Christies Beach Surf Lifesaving Club will be ready to open, and when we will be able to have a meeting there, the meeting date will be known in the near future, Artie said that the new building work still needs to be signed off by Council, and approval is expected in the next few weeks. I have been promoting this meeting in the June, July, and now August Newsletters, and as soon as I know something definite I will immediately notify all concerned so that necessary arrangements can be made.
We will
also need two Members to speak for a few minutes about their own experience with
Prostate Cancer, one who has had Surgery and one who has had Radiotherapy. We
can discuss this at the September meeting.
We have
been given permission by Centro Colonnades to have an Information Table on
Saturday September 18th between 9.00am and 5.00pm and we will need
the help of some volunteers.
We must
have someone present at all times during this period, so if you have some time
to spare please come along and help us, we will be upstairs near the Watchmaker-
Jewellers clock.
The venue
is, the Port Noarlunga-Christies Beach RSL Sub Branch, Esplanade, Christies
Beach, just up from the Port Noarlunga Jetty.
The time
is 7.30pm for an 8.00pm start, and the cost is $5.00 per person for each table
of eight.
Please
tell your friends about this and help us raise some money. I will soon have to
buy a new Ink Cartridge for the Printer so we need to make the most of every
opportunity to build up a healthy bank balance.
The RSL
phone number is 8382 7785, however I will take bookings and pass the information
on to the RSL.
Ken
Webster just delivered six more very good prizes for the Quiz Night, thanks Ken
and Kathy.
Please
try and donate a prize even if you are unable to
attend.
