BULLDOG BULLETIN JUNE  2008

Summary of season as at 13th June 2008:

A Grade: 2wins, 4 losses, 5^th position. Not travelling too well at the moment and some senior players must stand up or the season may be over.  This weeks match against West is all important and the boys must win to stay in touch. Players who have stood up in the last month include Ian Brown, Matty Grantham, Michael Curley and Todd Kernahan

B Grade: 4 wins, 2 losses, 3^rd position. Travelling well at this stage of the year and last games 15 goal win against Centrals will give them confidence.  

Under 18s: 5 wins, 1 loss, 2^nd position, Strucky has them playing well at the moment with the big challenge against West’s this week.  Several of the lads have played A Grade.

Under 15’s: 2 teams South White 1 win, 5 losses, South Red 2 wins 4 losses, 3^rd and 4^th position. The decision by the Colts Committee to have 2 teams was a great one for the club with over 30 Under 15 lads getting a  game each week, well done. This will make it hard for the teams to make a big impact but there will be long term benefits for the club.  

Under 13’s : 2 teams South White 4 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw, 2^nd position. South Red 3 wins, 2 loss, 1 draw 3^rd position. The draw last week between the 2 teams indicates that the selectors have done a great job, both sides performing well under the guidance of Pidgeon Grantham and Curls.

Under 11’s: Good numbers at 27 and the team will be around the mark in the finals.  

Under 9’s: Travelling well with good numbers, Noogs has the boys well organised and learning new skills. U9s seems to be going well and we have millions of kids (upwards of 45) so they split them and Lee Wilcock is running a mini league comp against Centrals who have similar numbers at half time of the A grade games.  

Table Tennis

At this stage with 14 juniors and 40 senior players registering for the year it continues its success,  if you’re keen on a game turn up on a Monday night and we’ll fit you in.

Bulldogs at a higher level

Jared Rivers – has had a few injury problems and isn’t having too much luck this year but continues to hold his place in the team when available. Players in Adelaide include Darren Shillabeer- Norwood, Jak Kerin, Jess Skipworth- North Adelaide’s U17s travelling each week.

Plaques: Rent for the name plaques above the bar are now due and invoices will go out in the next week . Funds raised will go towards the Family Day in August 2008. Rent is $5 per year per plaque, Pay Harry Waterworth or Mark Shirley. Cost for a new plaque is $15. Plaque comes off soon if no payment received.

Vice Presidents Club: Function at the Central Oval on the 15^th June 2008 with drinks and lunch provided at the oval starting at 1.30pm. Kean has done a great job getting over 50 members this year. Thanks for your support.

Jetset Travel Seminar: Interested in travelling to Alaska? South sponsor Jetset is holding a free seminar on Thursday 26^th June at 31 Flinders Tce, Port Augusta. Be there at 6pm for a 6.30 start and refreshments will be provided.

Players Auction; Over $1,000 was raised for the Football Committee at the auction which was well supported by club members.  Many thanks to Graeme Jones, auctioneer who managed to get money out of most suckers, I mean supporters.

Red and White Ball, Saturday 2^nd August- Back to Souths

All the past players and officials are invited  back to Friday night teas, watch the game and attend the ball, a great night for the club.  The BC Boys will be playing on the night with a start around 7.30pm, supper included. Get a table together and keep a look out for more details closer to the event.

Family Day Sunday 10^th August: A great day for the club with coaching clinic and Juniors vs Parents games during the day. All juniors, parents and senior players are invited. Free BBQ and drinks for the juniors. Events will follow Under 9s vs West game.

Snippets

·         A few of the boys pulled up worse for wear after Fairest and Best player Greg Flanegan had his 50th birthday recently in Whyalla. Apparently it was a long trip to Adelaide for Couttsy the next day if he remembers it.
