Eyre Peninsula Carnival |
PORT AUGUSTA EIGHTBALL – EYRE PENINSULA 8 BALL CARNIVAL
The Eyre Peninsula Carnival has been going for many years, with Port Augusta joining the circle in 1994/1995. As the years have gone by the rivalry between the towns has intensified with all laid on the table. When the carnival was first going there were in excess of 16 sides competing. Over the years the number of teams dwindled down until now where we see only the 2 teams per town competing, with a total of 10 overall. Port Augusta has had much success in the Eyre Peninsula Carnival bringing home the shield on many occasions. It has however been a long time during drinks for the Association with the shield not being held here since 2000, when the Port Augusta One side won the Ceduna Eyre Peninsula Carnival. Past Winners of the Carnival: The Eyre Peninsula Carnival is used by many of the players as a practice in the lead up to the State Eightball Carnival, of which all competing teams in the Eyre Peninsula attend. The Eyre Peninsula 8 Ball Committee are responsible for selecting two teams from the Eyre Peninsula weekend who will go to the State Carnival representing Eyre Peninsula. The weekend sees lots of Eightball played, a lot of drinking, eating and just good plain old fun. The players who travel the distances find the weekend is a time to catch up, and have some fun. There is a serious side to the weekend and this is shown on the table. At the conclusion of the weekend trophies are awarded to the winning side, runner up’s, and a small memento goes to those who successfully achieve 8 Ball Pot Outs. A player of the carnival trophy is given to the player who ends the weekend on top of the player ladder.
