About The Maltese Guild of South Australia

We invite you to find out more about The Maltese Guild of South Australia. At present, our association has currently has approximately 250 members.

OBJECT AND PURPOSE

  • To institute and conduct activities for promotion of spiritual, intellectual, social and general advancement of members.

  • To attend to the interests of the Maltese Community in South Australia and enhance the good name of Malta and its people.

  • To foster and maintain the spirit of co-operation between the Maltese and Australian people with the view of early integration.

  • To afford opportunities to discuss matters affecting good relations between Maltese and Australians.

  • To represent the Maltese Community in South Australia in all matters, and to obtain official recognition by both the Federal and State Governments in Australia, and by the Government of Malta.

  • To secure representations on conventions and other bodies calculated to achieve, or to assist in achieving these objects and purposes.

  • To obtain official contact and maintain cordial relations with organisations whose aims to foster integration of, and amongst migrants with view of becoming worthy citizens of the commonwealth of Australia.

  • To foster migration from Malta to Australia, and to assist in every possible way these migrants, as well as Maltese from other countries arriving in Australia.

  • To establish A CODE OF ETHICS for members.

  • To publish a periodical to be known as 'NEWSLETTER'. Issues to be made monthly and copies posted to subscribers and contributors regularly. The price of 'Thirty cents' per issue is to be included in the annual subscription or contribution. 'Three dollars' per annum from each member's annual subscription or contribution shall be set apart for the periodical and be separately accounted for in the balance sheet and be duly audited. In the case where husband and wife are members of the Maltese Guild one copy shall be sent to the household.

  • The Guild consists of a patron, Spiritual Director, Hon: President, Executive committee, Coordinating Officer (appointed by the Executive committee from the elected members), Standing Committees and ordinary members.

ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP

Members of The Maltese Guild of South Australia Inc. must be:-

  • Any person of Maltese ethnicity residing in South Australia.

  • Wives and/or husbands of Maltese ethnicity residents in South Australia.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERS

  • Any person of non-Maltese ethnicity may become an associate member of The Guild provided no such associate member shall be eligible to be elected as a member of The Executive Committee nor vote at any general meeting, but will have the right to speak at a General Meeting.

  • Any member of The Guild may be awarded Honorary Membership if he/she has provided service of any exceptional or sterling character to the benefit of The Guild as a whole, and been a member of The Guild for not less than a continuous period of ten years, and further that such honorary member shall be entitled to all privileges of any ordinary member and shall be presented with a Certificate of Merit at such function of The Guild as the Executive Committee shall decide. No more than five such members be appointed in any financial year.

  • A member may upon payment of a 'one only' subscription of $100.00 become a life member of The Guild entitled to all the privileges of any ordinary member.

ADMINISTRATION

The Executive Committee of The Maltese Guild of South Australia Inc., consists of the following:

Vice-President
Honourable General Secretary
Assistant Secretary
Honourable General Treasurer
Assistant Treasurer, and
Four Councillors

And a Co-ordinating Officer appointed from the above Elected Committee.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

  • (a) An Annual General Meeting shall be held at any Sunday in December of each year as decided by the Executive Committee to declare the election of Officers for a period of two (2) years.
  1. For the purpose of this clause only half of the Committee will be elected for the period of two (2) years as stated in Clause 14/Sub Clause (c).

  2. The Secretary shall give Members at least four (4) weeks notice by means of 'NEWSLETTER'.
  • (b) The Secretary shall submit a report of the activities of The Guild and the Treasurer shall submit a Financial report.
