BROAD OBJECTIVES


The following objectives of FNHCP are broadly those of the Friends of Parks Inc. tailored to suit the area in which we operate viz. the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula Conservation Parks of Newland Head, Springmount and Mt. Billy.

1. To provide the opportunity for public participation in the management of Newland Head, Springmount and Mt. Billy Conservation Parks.
2. To contribute to Friends activities by way of manual work, fund raising, education and cultural promotion and social activities.
3. To contribute locally to the national and global needs for conservation of the natural and built heritage.

The group is involved in the following activities in its pursuit of meeting those objectives.

a. Pest weed and feral animal control (includes off park areas such as nearby roadsides and river courses where threats to park integrity exists).
b. Dissemination of information and educational displays in public venues provided that the release is in the best interests of conservation.
c. Maintenance and access location of trails where they pass through areas being managed by FNHCP.
d. Collating, recording and reporting information of assistance to selected universities, students or Government Departments.
e. Administrative and clerical work required of incorporated bodies (as well as labour schedules, activities reports, etc.).
f. Preparation of brochures and displays at local environmental seminars and conventions. - top -
g. Monitoring of biodiversity, identification of species, occasional research and experimental trials.
h. Fundraising by offering labour for other environmental projects which have merit.
i. Assist staff of NPWSA and encourage them in their conservation of those parks in our district and support them in ameliorating external threats.
j. Assist in educational events promoting park conservation.
k. Assist in preparation and make comments on management plans and their reviews.
l. Public speaking to other groups on subjects relating to park conservation and our activities.
m. Conduct occasional tours of projects for local councillors, environmental groups and environmental consultants.
n. Best practice revegetation programs and development of propagation techniques and planting out techniques.
o. Wind and water erosion control and development of efficient and effective techniques.
p. Maintaining awareness of local strategic and natural resource management plans and the manner in which they might affect the integrity and conservation of local conservation parks.
q. Commenting on Commonwealth, State, Regional, and Local draft documentation where it has implications affecting park conservation management.
