BRIEF GROUP HISTORY

Friends of Newland Head Conservation Park (FNHCP) are a member group of the umbrella organisation of Friends of Parks Incorporated which became incorporated in 1993.

FNHCP was formed after an inaugural meeting on February 2 1988. The group is coordinated by the Community Liaison Unit of the Department for Environment and Heritage (DEH).

In 1999, after considerable lobbying by FNHCP, the water reserve at Hindmarsh Tiers was purchased by DEH and upon gazettal became Mt. Billy Conservation Park (August 12, 1999). FNHCP formed a subgroup Friends of Mt. Billy to ensure that immediate expertise and administration was available to those people who showed interest in participating in the conservation and management of Mt. Billy.
