Information about the membership

Subscription

  • The subscription fees for membership shall be such sum as the committee shall determine from time to time. The scheduled fees are listed in Appendix 1.
  • The subscription fees shall be payable annually on or before 31 July or at such other time as the committee shall determine. Prompt payment of subscription fees are required to maintain membership in good standing.
  • Any member whose subscription is outstanding for more than three months after the due date for payment shall cease to be a member of the association, provided always that the committee may reinstate such a person’s membership on such terms as it thinks fit.


Privileges

Members in good standing are entitled to the right to vote in all elections of the ASACW, to receive the monthly newsletter published by the ASACW, and other membership benefits as may be outlined in the newsletter.


Membership qualifications

A person is qualified to be a member of the association if, but only if

  • The individual person or corporate whose application for membership has been approved by the committee.
  • The person who is a writer, journalist or editor in the media, including professional publications, shall be eligible for membership.


Application for Membership

  • An application of a person for membership of the association –
    • Shall be made in writing in the form set out in Appendix 1 to these rules; and
    • Shall be lodged with the secretary of the association.
  • As soon as practicable after receiving an application for membership, the secretary shall refer the application to the committee which shall determine whether to approve or to reject the application.
  • Where the committee determines to approve an application for membership, the secretary shall, as soon as practicable after that determination, notify the applicant of that approval and request the applicant to pay within the period of 28 days after receipt by the applicant of the notification the sum payable under these rules by a member as entrance fee and annual subscription.
  • Where the committee determines to reject an application for membership, the secretary shall, as soon as practicable after that determination, notify the applicant of that refusal, with or without stating the reasons for such refusal and refund the amount of money paid by the applicant at that time.
  • The secretary shall, on payment by the applicant of the amounts referred to in Article 5.4c within the period referred to in that clause, enter the applicant’s name in the register of members and, upon the name being so entered, the applicant becomes a member of the association.
