Oxford University Society of South Australia
Annual Events
The Sundowner
The Annual Sundowner is traditionally when we welcome the latest South Australian Rhodes Scholar. The 2015 event was held on the lawns at St. Mark's College on Friday 20 November 2015. The 2016 event will be announced in due course.
The Boat Race Dinner
The Boat Race Dinner is held annually in conjunction with the Cambridge Society.
The Cambridge Society hosted the dinner in May 2015 at St Mark's college, where a remarkable clean-sweep of Oxford victories was toasted; Oxford will host in 2016, with details announced on the News page. We trust that our oarsmen and women may continue their run of form.
The booking form with full details can be downloaded here. Please note the early-bird discount valid until 8 April.
The Oxford University Society (SA Branch) Public Lecture
Following a most engaging lecture by Ian Henschke at the Naval, Military & Air Force Club on Friday 20th March 2015, an additional lecture has been arranged in the same calendar year. The second lecture will take place at the Naval, Military and Airman's Club on 7 October when Rhodes Scholar Josh Fundy will speak on the subject of his recent book "Watson's Pier - The evacuation of Gallipoli."
The novel is based on Stanley Watson’s story of the evacuation of Gallipoli. Joshua Funder is Stanley Watson’s great grandson and lives in Melbourne with his wife and two children. Both are Rhodes Scholars.
The book is fiction which also sets out to correct the historical record.
