What is a Community Visitor?
A Community Visitor is a volunteer who sets aside time, at least once a fortnight, to visit and befriend a socially or culturally isolated recipient
of Australian Government subsidised residential aged care services or a Home Care
Package.
The purpose of the visits includes:

Providing friendship and companionship

Increasing the persons involvement in social activities and community affairs
Volunteer Community Visitors should have the following personal attributes:
- A genuine desire to engage with and spend time with older people
- Good listening and communication skills
- A cheerful and positive outlook on life
- Patience, tolerance and understanding
Volunteer Community Visitors should meet the following criteria:

Be over the age of 18 years

Undergo a satisfactory National Criminal History Record Check

Have the capacity to travel independently to the person you are visiting

Willing to take on a 12 month commitment
People of many cultural or varied backgrounds are found in any community, and aged care is no exception. The CVS therefore welcomes prospective Community Visitors from all backgrounds and age groups.
Community Visitors receive training and ongoing support from their CVS Coordinator to assist them to carry out their role.
