About Visiting

Who do Community Visitors visit?

Community Visitors visit residents of aged care facilities or older people still residing at home who are socially or culturally isolated. The person you visit may be isolated and lonely because of limited family and social contact, for cultural reasons, or through disability.

Every effort will be made to ensure your visits are meaningful and enjoyed by both parties. You will be matched to visit with someone based on your common interests, culture or background or complimentary personalities.

How often will I visit?

The Community Visitors Scheme is a flexible program with guidelines requesting a volunteer visit their matched resident at least once a fortnight. The time and day of your visit is your choice and should be convenient to both you and the person you visit; visiting for a period of time you are both comfortable with, on average visits are between thirty minutes and one hour but may vary in accordance with what you chose to do during your visit.

How is the visit spent?

The purpose of the visit is friendship and companionship, therefore how you spend your time with the person you are matched with will depend on your shared interests and if you are visiting someone in an aged care facility or at their home. Examples of ways current Community Visitors spend their visits are listed below.
