Borrowing from the Toy Library
You must be a member to borrow from the Toy Library.
How to join?
Becoming a member of the toy library is very easy to do. Just come in to the toy library during opening hours with fees payment (cash or eftpos) and photo identification displaying current address. You can save time by downloading the Member Registration Form here and filling it in before you arrive.
Joining a toy library has lots of benefits. You save money by borrowing rather than buying toys. You get to meet other families in your local area. Your children get to try out lots of different toys including educational games and puzzles. You are helping the environment by reducing landfill of redundant toys. You are introducing your child to the concept of borrowing and caring for items.
Who can join?
Anyone who has children or cares for children. You can be a parent, a grandparent, an uncle or aunt, a family day care provider, a playgroup, etc.....Each membership is treated as either a family membership or a group membership. This means that either parent or grandparent can borrow for the one membership fee.
Family membership: $35 per year
Group membership: $50 per year
Borrowing limits family membership:
You may borrow:
2 toys and 1 puzzle per child
A family may also borrow 1 Literacy or Early Science Kit
Each child may borrow 1 extra toy @ $1 each time.
Children are eligible to borrow from birth to 8 years old
Generally, the borrowing period is 4 weeks but always check your due-date slip. Toys can be returned earlier. However, if you wish to keep them for a longer period, you will need to phone or email for an extension.
It is essential that all toys are transported in a bag when borrowing and returning in order to prevent pieces of toys being lost. Please keep all toys in bags until you return home to prevent parts from being lost.
Tuesday 10 - 3
Wednesday 2 - 7.30
Thursday 10 - 3
There are fines for overdue toys, missing pieces and damaged toys. Fines need to be paid before more toys can be borrowed. Management reserves the right to suspend or withdraw membership in the event of significant unpaid fines or consistent periods of lengthy overdue loans.
$1 per week plus $5 for each letter or email sent or phone call made by the Toy Library.
Loan period of toys can be extended by contacting toy library via email here or phoning toy library on 8397 7443 and quoting Membership Name and Number.
For all children to fully enjoy the toys, the toys need to be returned in the condition that they were borrowed and with all pieces intact. Each toy with pieces has a detailed list of contents, and members need to check that all pieces are there before borrowing and when it's returned. If toy is incomplete please extend item for a further 4 weeks and keep looking for missing piece. If toy is found to have missing pieces when checked upon return, member will be required to re borrow toy for a further 4 weeks and return complete. Charges will be considered on a case by case basis but costs will begin at:
- $2 per piece, for minor missing pieces which is refundable if the missing piece is found.
- $5 per piece (refundable) for an integral piece that significantly reduces toy's play value, with the right to charge more on a case by case basis.
- Replacement cost if toy is considered unusable.
Damaged or Lost Toys
Sometimes accidents do happen, and if a toy is damaged by a member, it may need to be removed from the TTG Toy Library catalogue. A fine may be charged, each damaged toy will be assessed individually.
If a toy is lost by a member, the member will be charged replacement cost or required to donate an equivalent item. Each case will be assessed individually.

The Tea Tree Gully Toy Library is managed by a voluntary management committee, elected annually at our AGM in September. We always welcome new committee members and have a number of short and long term projects and positions available. You don't need any particular experience to be a valuable committee member, just a willingness to participate and take an interest in the future direction of the TTG Toy Library. Working on the Committee is both rewarding and enjoyable, and offers all members a chance to have input to how the TTG Toy Library operates.
All committee meetings are open to members and you are most welcome to join us.
If you are interested in joining the committee and would like more details, please contact us.
