The Friends of Dry Creek Trail Social Media Policy.

Document Purpose

The Friends of Dry Creek Trail use social media as a means to communicate between its members, to inform others of our plantings and events, to network between like-minded groups and government bodies, and, to promote the aims and objectives of The Friends of Dry Creek Trail. This policy is intended to provide the committee, volunteers, supporters and any others that have a common interest as The Friends of Dry Creek Trail with clarity on the use of social media platforms.

Social Media

Social media is any online media that allows for a conversation, activity, interaction, and/or participation that might impact on The Friends of Dry Creek Trail or the people who view that information or data.

Guiding principles

The Friends of Dry Creek Trail committee, volunteers and supporters are encouraged to participate in social media. Whenever The Friends of Dry Creek Trail committee, volunteers and supporters interacting on social media, whether in an official or personal capacity the following guiding principles should be top of mind.

  • I will be polite, considerate, kind and fair.
  • I will respond to others’ opinions respectfully and professionally.
  • I will not knowingly post inaccurate information.
  • I will not criticise The Friends of Dry Creek Trail committee, volunteers and supporters or related Federal, State, or Local Government policy.
  • I will link to online references and original source materials directly.
  • I will not harass, bully or intimidate.
  • I will acknowledge and correct mistakes promptly.
  • I will disclose conflicts of interest where I am able.

Inappropriate use

Inappropriate use of social media includes, (but not limited to):

  • Any activity that brings The Friends of Dry Creek Trail or any of its committee, volunteers, or supporters into disrepute, either discriminatorily, or, racially, by either abusively, obscenely, inflammatory, or, unlawfully.
  • Criticising or denigrating any or other organisations, and their employees, volunteers or supporters.
  • Using discriminatory, defamatory, abusive or otherwise objectionable language.
  • Stalking, bullying, trolling or marginalising any individual or group.
  • Paid endorsement of any kind, including private business, in kind services or gifts.
  • Excessive debate on public policy.
  • Representing the Friends of Dry Creek Trail as having a direct political affiliation.
  • Hacking or attempting to infiltrate the systems of The Friends of Dry Creek Trail or any another organisation
  • Uploading information of a confidential nature.
  • Accessing sites that promote hatred or extreme/fundamental beliefs and values.
  • Accessing or uploading pornographic, gambling or illegal content, including extreme images of graphic content or information regarding activity relating to firearms, bombs, terrorism etc.

It is the duty of everyone who is affiliated with The Friends of Dry Creek Trail to alert the President or any of the Committee to any inappropriate content they may come across.

Policy Breach

Misuse of social media can have serious consequences for The Friends of Dry Creek Trail, and consequently that misuse can have serious consequences for the committee, volunteers and supporters. The Committee is responsible to ensure adherence to the Social Media Policy by volunteers and supporters. This includes undertaking reasonable monitoring of social media, and resulting risk assessment and management or disciplinary action, of any suspected or identified breach.

In the event of any misconduct, removal of any social media content may occur. Any serious misconduct may be referred to a regulatory body, or legal measure undertaken.

Complaints through social media.

Complaints or negative comments regarding The Friends of Dry Creek Trail may be made through social media channels. Both official and personal users of social media are discouraged from arguing or refuting complaints or negative feedback through social media channels. This behaviour can antagonise or fuel further attacks on The Friends of Dry Creek Trail reputation.

In the event of a complaint or negative comment about The Friends of Dry Creek Trail it is important to address the comment as soon as possible.

Deleting posts

The Friends of Dry Creek Trail will not delete posts that are complaints, or negative, except when they breach any of the conditions outlined for the committee, volunteer and supporters in the ‘inappropriate use’ Where possible, the administrator will contact the user whose post has been removed, providing them with an explanation why it has been removed and the necessary action(s) for it to be reposted.
