Dear Friends of Parks
Friends
of Parks Inc. AGM 2012: Board nominations
As
previously advised this year’s AGM will be held in the Ted and Molly
Hughes Conference Centre at Para Wirra on the morning of Monday
14th
May. Pam Smith from the Volunteer Support Unit has already mailed out the more
procedural details. This letter is to again ask you to give serious
consideration to volunteering more of your precious time to helping out on the
Board of Management of Friends of Parks
Inc.
Since
my last President’s Chat a couple of current board members have indicated
that after several years of service, they are bowing out in order to devote more
time to their other commitments. On the other hand there have also been a few
expressions of interest and a couple of new nominations which is pleasing
- but we are still looking for more horsepower. I’d like to
think, therefore, that there are others amongst you that are considering putting
your hats in the ring. If I’m right, I ask you to do so and join us in
helping to ensure the survival of Friends of Parks and the parks and reserves
that we
cherish.
The
parlous situation of parks and their resourcing presents huge challenges to us
all. The Board is increasingly being used as the communication link between the
Department, member groups and regional management on policy and strategic
issues. We need your help in staying relevant, capable and committed. Keeping on
top of all that is happening requires a range of knowledge, skills and general
interest that we are increasingly finding it difficult to
provide.
Please
circulate this letter to all group members and anyone interested can contact me
(see letterhead above) or any of the other Board members (Pam Smith can provide
details). Currently
we meet on the first Thursday evening of every second month at the DENR Keswick
office, although this is not set in stone with more work potentially being done
out of session and electronically. This is a very serious plea for help at a
time when we are being asked to respond to changing circumstances which present
challenges to our member groups, individual volunteers and the environment. I
ask you please to think about this request and nominate for a position on the
Board.
Kind
regards

President
Friends of Parks Inc.
