JANUARY 2009 This was meant to be the last newsletter for 2008 but due to a last minute hiccup and then the Hazells being away for four weeks it has now become the first TT newsletter in 2009.I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas/New Year and are beginning your preparation for some exciting orienteering events early in 2009, including national standard events (National Orienteering League) at Keithcott Farm, Para Wirra and Narrinyeri Hills in March, and Easter in Tasmania. (Don’t forget entries for the latter close very soon).RETURN OF THE TINTOGIES It was lovely to see so many TTs at the AGM at Black Hill in November 2008 where Jeffa revived the tradition of the Tintogies. Many years ago, TT awarded Tintogies at the AGM (a decorated Vegemite glass. Anyone still got one?) This year a few people won a bar of chocolate. The winners were: David Law--- for so often bringing new people to events. As it so happened, he also put out a control for the Wadmore Park course earlier in the evening, the first time he had taken on that responsibility. Henry Hazell - for running the same course as Luke in the Schools Relays and beating him by 2 minutes! Fi Pahor - for being “ the Lady of the Tablecloth”. In all her catering at TT events she has always made the array look elegant on top of a bright yellow tablecloth. Thanks, Fi. Tony Radford - for his definition of a broken fence. People were asked to add to the list already on display eg “uncrossable fence—always between you and the control”. Tony’s definition was Trip Wire. He was thinking back to an event in the South East where he tripped over an old fence and broke his jaw. Dean Davis - for his work in schools. Dean is the teacher responsible for all the successful orienteering that goes on at East Adelaide Primary School. This leads on in later years to members in our SA Schools team as Dean’s orienteers go on orienteering wherever they go to school next. Such an important role earned more than a chocolate bar. As teachers are always so busy and never at a loose end, TT gave him a bottle of Gibson’s Barossa wine called “Loose Ends”! Dean started orienteering with the South East club and hasn’t lost his skills. He whizzed round the 8 controls on Wadmore Park. A couple of other teachers missed out on their wine… You have to be in it to win it. Maybe you’ll come next year for your Tintogie? 2009 TT COMMITTEE
