Fri: - 9.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am
The general kindergym sessions provide a safe and stimulating environment where children and their parents or caregivers can creatively explore the equipment and be challenged by the wide range of physical activities. We believe children in these sessions learn by meeting these challenges and by observing and following other children of mixed ages and abilities at play. Parents are a play mate, a role model and a source of ideas and encouragement, it is important to participate at all stages of the session with your child. Play is essential to children's development, it helps build confidence, social and physical skills and above all it is fun.
Baby Kindergym
0-2 year olds
Mon - 2.00pm
Tues - 2.30pm
Thurs - 2.00pm
The baby kindergym sessions are designed to introduce both the child and the parent or caregiver to the kindergym environment, procedures and play based learning. It is a gentle and unhurried session where very young children and new parents can participate and interact without competition from older and bigger children, who can often be very intimidating. As a group these children explore, develop and master skills at a similar rate and in the bay kindergym session we can design activities specific to their younger needs and development. Child/parent interaction is paramount.
Pregym
4 year olds
Fri - 1.00pm, 2.00pm
The pregym sessions are smaller and are designed to introduce the more competent and confident four year old to basic gymnastic skills and developmentally appropriate challenges. This class involves more direction and instruction but still with a lot of fun incentives. Each term has a different theme (eg. Space). Children develop and master 8-10 gymnastic skills as well as learning to listen, take instructions and to work more independently. Parents are directly involved and assist and encourage the children to try new skills, to focus and to participate safely.

General Gym
An action filled sport, that offers fun, fitness, friendship and the opportunity to challenge your mind and body. General gymnastics is a sport for everybody, regardless of age, gender or ability. It is the perfect activity to prepare children for long term participation in sport and develops vital life skills.
General Gymnastics
General gymnastics at Tea Tree Gully Youth Club offers a program for school aged children that teaches basis of gymnastic skills in a non competitive and 'fun' environment. The program is based on the guidelines recommended by the Australian Gymnastics Federation and uses the 'building block' technique of simplifying skills into key movements and then adding variety and difficulty as the basic skills are mastered.
The general gymnastic classes use all areas of the gym and its wide range of equipment that includes trampolines, climbing ropes, bars, beams, a sprung floor and a foam filled pit. The children are encouraged to work through a set series of 'skill levels' on the various pieces of gymnastic equipment and are assessed at regular intervals. The children work through the levels at their own pace and as general gymnastics is not an elite program a perfect performance is not required for a passing grade but the child's best effort. Children are taught in small groups by a qualified coach and groups are graded according to ability and are mixed gender.
Junior Gymnastics
Junior gymnastics is designed for children between 5 and 7 years old who are interested in developing gymnastic skills in a more structured environment. The class caters for children who wish to take a slightly more serious approach to learning gymnastics than general gymnasts. Some of these gymnasts will be referred into the competition areas when positions become available. The club usually participates in two annual 'S.A. General Gymnastics competitions' where gymnasts compete against gymnasts from other clubs as a team and individually. Gymnasts are required to learn simple set routines which involve extra training. Entry into these competitions is not compulsory. Parents are welcome to stay during the session and watch their child's progress. Please use the seats on the side of the main gym and ensure siblings do not roam around the club (this is an important insurance issue) Parents of very young children may accompany and assist them in the session if necessary, please check with the coach to arrange this. We try to keep our groups as small as possible depending on the availability of instructors. Occasionally parents are asked to monitor specific areas as a safety precaution.
Children and parents are welcome to visit the club at any of the general gymnastic times to view a session in progress. One trial session is offered for any child wishing to try gymnastics. There is a fee involved for this session, however this is deducted from the term fee if the child should choose to join the club.
Tea Tree Gully Youth Club also offers specialized coaching in women's artistic gymnastics and trampoline sports. A particularly talented general gymnast may be referred to these other programs. Acceptance into these squads will depend on an assessment of their ability by the head coach and subject to vacancies.
Veterans Gymnastics
The Tea tree Gully Youth Club does cater for those parents who want to experience what their children do as well as for retired gymnasts who just can't give it away. Whether it be for general fitness, strength and flexibility or whether you want to compete in the annual Veterans competition you are welcome to come along. Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG)
A challenging, fun and safe sport for your daughter to turn herself upside down, rather than your house! Women's Artistic Gymnastics is an excellent sport to teach your daughter co-ordination and confidence, develop creativity and contribute to her general health and fitness.
Women's Artistic Gymnastics is a dynamic sport for girls of all ages. It involves the performing of routines using a variety of skills on the four competitive apparatus: the vaulting horse, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. The gymnast will develop a high level of flexibility, strength, fitness and dance. Tea Tree Gully Youth Club has an enviable range of competitive equipment including a pit, full sprung floor, trampolines, mirrored dance room and multiple apparatus.
Girls that wish to develop their basic skills and attend competitions are accepted into the competition squads from approximately 4-5 years old after showing talent in the general gymnastic or pregym sessions; and upon undergoing an assessment by the WAG head coach. Training commences at 1-2 times a week for the 4-5 year olds and increases to 3-4 times a week (2 - 15 hours) as the child gains further skills and increases in age. Girls train and compete in the Australian Gymnastics Levels program ranging from level 1 - 10.
Competitions
Girls compete in local competitions at the State Gymnastic Centre at Marion at least 3 times a year, with the opportunity to also participate in country competitions (Broken Hill, Port Pirie and Murray Bridge) and interstate competitions. Girls must be prepared to see gymnastics as their major sport and will require the full support of their families. The club has an enviable record at competition level and consistently has members selected in the State and national squads and is home to reigning State Champions. Parental help is required at competitions usually as a door person or music operator. All parents will be expected to help at some stage.
