Walking in the Park click here for walks map Wetlands Walk 1.5hr 4.5km return The Wetland trail is located in the recreation park and provides an insight into the fascinating and complex life of an estuarine environment. The trail offers an opportunity for birdwatching and photography. Along the trail are interpretive signs, which provide information about the flora and fauna of the wetlands. Walk commences at Gate 31 on River Road, but is also accessed from Gates 23 and 33. Pingle Farm Walk 2hr 4.5km return Estuary views, small artificial wetland and early farming heritage. Trail commences at Gate 29 on Commercial Road, but is also accessed from Gates 23, 27 and 28. This trail leads from gate six with the first 400 metres along the main track leading to a magnificent lookout. You then descend along the steep rocky trail to the river. During winter, access is difficult when the river is deep and flowing. An alternative Sundews Ridge Hike along the ridgetop from the lookout is provided for those not wishing to descend to the base of the gorge. Trail commences at Gate 6 located on Piggott Range Road. Nature Hike 2hr 3.5km return The Nature Trail includes spectacular rugged scenery making this trail attractive to bushwalkers. Trails in the gorge are steep and suitable for experienced and fit bushwalkers only. Here you will see peppermint gum and sheoaks, many species of birds and the occasional lizard on a warm sunny day. Trail commences at Gate 6, but can also be accessed from Gate 7 on Piggott Range Road. Echidna Hike 2.5hr 3.5km return The Echidna Trail winds its way amongst some of the best remnant vegetation in the park. The dominant overstorey species is peppermint box, with river red gum in the gullies and pink gum on higher slopes. Other plant species incude sheoak, golden wattle, a small stand of native pine and various herbaceous ground covers. Twenty-seven species of native orchids have also been recorded in the area. Six heritage sites have been identified, with four huts/houses built in the late 1880’s, all of similar construction. These sites can be observed along the Echidna Trail providing both a recreational and historical experience for visitors. Trail commences at Gate 7 on Piggott Range Road. Mixed Pink Gum, Grey Box and Native Pine woodlands. An interesting diversity of plant and bird life. Trail commences at Gate 11 on Chapel Hill Road, but is also accessed from gates 13 and 14.
