Welcome to Gladstone!

Gladstone is a medium-sized service town which is 209 km north of Adelaide. The town, which gained it's name in 1871 (an honour to the British Prime Minister William Gladstone) is in an area dominated by wheat and sheep. Still to this day the town can boast about having the largest grain silos in South Australia.

Gladstone appeals to many with its broad streets and buildings dating back into the 1800s. There are many impressive buildings in town, including the bank buildings on the street beside the railway line. A town walk, featuring many examples of fine old sandstone homes and commercial buildings from the 1800s has been mapped out, the map can be collected from the caravan park.

And whilst in Gladstone, a visit to the heritage-listed gaol is an absolute must!

The famous Australian poet, C. J. Dennis, lived in the town as a child. His father ran the local hotel and Dennis attended the local primary school.
