:: Basic overview
The Friends of Innes in 2002 have 11 active members that reside in Marion Bay, approx 7km from Innes National Park.
There are also members who pay a $10 membership fee - which entitles them to the Newsletter the "Sea Eagle" - created
and printed by our editor, active member Joyce Yeomans. Our group are aged from mid fifties to over 70 years of age, a
hardworking group who involve themselves in all aspects of looking after the environment.
:: Meetings
Four meetings are held during the year, one being
the A.G.M when projects & newsworthy items are discussed.
Busy Bees, held once a month enable us to complete projects
for which we receive funding from the government by applying
for them. Once a year we attend a forum. This year it is
in the Barossa Valley. We also attend Training Programs.
:: History
Friends of Innes was formed as a Group in 1986 to assist the Rangers in Innes National Park, situated on the sparsely
populated foot of the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. The main aim of the Group is to provide voluntary assistance to the
Innes National Park, its wildlife and cultural heritage, in close liaison with staff and management of the park.
In addition, the Group works to raise funds for the purchase of materials and equipment for use in the park.
Those members who actively participate in the work of the
organization are given a family pass granting access to
the park. At the Annual General Meeting the officers of
the Group are elected, i.e. the President, Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer and Publicity Officer. Park staff attend
these meetings and outline their concerns and how they wish
to the Friends Group to assist them in the work areas of
the park.
Working bees are conducted every month utilizing the many
skills of all members undertaking such activities as: (some
weeds are best hand pulled before seeds form), dune restoration,
and collecting sees, monitoring threatened species (e.g.
Mallee fowl numbers) and restoring heritage sites.
:: Awards
In 1998 the Friends of Innes won an award "Adopt
a Heritage Site". In 2000 we won "The Friends Group of the
Decade 1990 - 2000" and certificates for liaison with staff,

Year of the Volunteers" we received a certificate from the
S.A. Government"For Outstanding Volunteer Work".
