The Sturt Local Service Area Community Programs Section has implemented a program called “PARTY WISE” planning a safe party.

The program has been designed to fill a need within the community to alert teenagers and parents to their responsibilities and rights when planning, holding or attending a party. Included in the information package is a Registration Form that allows the Party Host to register the event with the police prior to the event taking place, which will enable police to take a pro active approach to policing the party.

The information package is based on the Victorian Police Program “Party Safe” which was implemented a number of years ago. The Party Wise program has been expanded and adapted to meet local needs in response to numerous requests from local High Schools and from parents in relation to teenage parties.

The aim of the package is to

  • Raise the knowledge of the parents and teenagers of their responsibilities

  • Provide parents and teenagers with information about the laws surrounding alcohol and excessive noise

  • Work in conjunction with parents and teenagers to help eliminate teenage parties becoming out of control.

Included in each pack is.

  • An information brochure with tips for parents, hosts and partygoers and information on alcohol and excessive noise.

  • Parents guide to Teenage Parties and Alcohol "Your legal responsibilities Outlined" produced by the Liquor and Gambling Commission.

  • A registration form which the host completes and returns to the nearest police station.

  • A card produced and supplied by the Drug and alcohol service council and the Office of the liquor and gambling commission in relation to Alcohol and young people.

  • A brochure produced and supplied by the Office of the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner. " Do I need a Liquor Licence for my Party"

  • A card produced by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau in How many standard drinks does it take to stay under .05.?

Party Wise packs are available from the Coromandel Community Centre. Please feel free to photocopy the registration form and use them whenever you feel that it is necessary. A number of venues have made it compulsory for hirers to submit a Party Wise registration form when hiring their premises.
