The Mighty
Nightowls (8.00 to 8.45pm)
The Mighty
Nightowls are a newly formed Blues Band with their own rich
smooth tones and funky rhythms which they are continuing to
hone and develop. They cover classic tunes by some of the
great bluesmen they are inspired by, such as Kim Wilson,
Ronnie Earl, Duke Robillard, Stevie Ray Vaughn and many more
well-known, as well as lesser known artists.
Formed around
May 2009, this local band was born out of the regular
Tuesday Night Blues Jam nights held at the Blackwood RSL and
regularly featuring the Bluescasters.

Sharing a
common appreciation for a more traditional style of blues
guitar heaven, these boys found instant chemistry on the
first night they jammed together and before long emerged as
The Mighty Nightowls.
The ‘owlin’
line-up consists of Bas Tijdhof from Holland on vocals and
lead guitar, Big Bill Bourke on rhythm guitar & backing
vocals and then there’s the ex-“Puffin’ Billy” rhythm
section from 2002-2003; Stuart J. Patrick on the double bass
and Olly Dangerfield on drums. With the support of their
guitarist turned soundman, Kym Milverton, they continue to
extend their mixed repertoire of soulful melodies and
toe-tapping dance numbers as well as everything blues in
between.
To find out
more about each of the Mighty Nightowl band members and
their individual musical biographies and influences, as well
as future dates and merchandise info, you can check out
their “myspace” page:
http://www.myspace.com/mightynightowls It’s still new
and in the developing process, so you may need to be patient
while the Nightowl content is gradually uploaded during the
New Year.
The band would
like to acknowledge the wonderful staff of the Coromandel
Valley Community centre for all their support.
They say
there’s nothing like the sound of a good blues band in full
flight and so the Mighty Nightowls are planning to do just
that, when they play one of their first public gigs at
“Music in the Park”. It should be a real hoot!
Breach
(9.00 to 9.45pm)
Breach is the brainchild of four talented and unique
musicians, each with their own ideas about music. Jack
Radford (lead vocals/rhythm guitar/piano), Alex Christophel
(drums), Ash Turner (lead guitar), and Jake Tracey (bass),
met in music class at Blackwood High, a school already known
for musical talent. 2009 proved to be a great year with
Breach being one of six finalists (the only one representing
SA) in Radio station Triple J Unearthed Australia wide
competition. Breach didn't win the contest but gained
massive exposure from being an entrant. This has inspired
the band to create more new material, and gave them hope for
the future.
