1. YOU ARE INVITED TO THE OFFICIAL VALLEY OF THE BANDICOOTS LAUNCH
(Monday, July 21, 12noon-1pm, Aldgate Primary School)
On Monday, July 21 we will be holding the official launch of the Valley of the Bandicoots program, at which we will formally acknowledge the assistance provided to the Aldgate Landcare Group for the VOB project by two Federal Government programs: - Green Corps ('Young Australians for the Environment') - The Australian Government Envirofund
WHERE: Aldgate Primary School
WHEN: 12noon-1pm, Monday, July 21
The Federal Member for Mayo, Alexander Downer, has accepted our invitation to officiate at the launch. - Green Corps ('Young Australians for the Environment) is a Federally funded project, managed jointly by Greening Australia and the Job Futures network (represented in SA by Anglicare). Green Corps has provided a team of 10 trainees and a supervisor for 14 weeks over the next six months to work on the VOB project.
- The Australian Government Envirofund, which is part of the Federal Government's Natural Heritage Trust, has provided the VOB project with $30,000 in funding this year. All those who have an interest in the Valley of the Bandicoots project are invited to attend the official launch. Nibbles (but no lunch) will be provided.
Thanks to Aldgate Primary School for providing the venue for this launch.

2. GOT ANY SPARE FENCE POSTS? WE NEED SOME FOR 'VALLEY OF THE BANDICOOTS'
(looking for spare green pine posts for Green Corps fencing)
As part of the Valley of the Bandicoots project, we have planned some stretches of protective fencing (to keep landholders livestock out of areas they have agreed to set aside for conservation). Our funding for this part of the project is very limited (we can offer a maximum of $1.60 per metre). It would be very helpful if anyone has any spare 'treated pine' fence posts (used ones are fine) which they are prepared to donate to the project. Ideally these posts should be 1.8 metres long.
We are also interested in steel droppers (longer ones, unbroken please). Please let me (David Mussared) know if you have any posts which you are prepared to donate. Give me a ring on 8388-5608, or email mussared@emailmedia.com.au

3. JOIN THE ALDGATE LANDCARE GROUP: IT'S FREE, & WE NEED THE NUMBERS
(show your support - & the AGM is coming up)
The Aldgate Valley Landcare Group (which coordinates the ''Valley of the Bandicoots' project) is a membership-based organisation, whose aim is to promote community involvement in, and sustainable management of, Aldgate Valley's natural land, water and biodiversity. Joining the AVLG is free (there is no membership fee), and very simple to do. It is an easy way for you to show that you support the work we are doing for the community and the environment.
Joining the AVLG does not commit you to doing anything, unless you want to. But it does give you the chance (if you want) to have a say in our Annual General Meeting - which is coming up in about September this year - or to even to nominate for a position. The Valley of the Bandicoots has grown into quite a large project now, and along the way it has involved many people who are not members of the AVLG. Could I ask you to consider, if you are interested in the VOB, to consider joining the AVLG? (either as an individual, or a family).
When we are applying for grants, one question we are always asked is 'How many members do you have?'. It would be helpful for us to be able to claim a larger membership - a lot of people are involved in informal ways, it would be very helpful for us to be able to claim more of these as actual members. To join, please send an email saying 'I want to join the Aldgate Valley Landcare Group' (with your name and contact details) to the AVLG chair, Ed Douglas, at: Ed.Douglas@unisa.edu.au
